When Jesus was preparing to leave this Earth, and his disciples were freaking out because they had come to depend on him for guidance, he told them not to worry, that he was sending “The Comforter” to guide and protect them.
Then “The Comforter” came down, and Jesus’ disciples performed miracles as Jesus had done.
Why have we forgotten this?
And Jesus was not the first to indicate that we would be given an internal guide. The prophet Jeremiah said, per the King James translation of the Bible (Jeremiah 31:33): “But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
We (many of us) say we believe the Bible. And no doubt many believe in the idea of the Holy Spirit. But do we live it?
If this is the case, and God has placed this internal guidance “System” in us, then why do we place the words of the Bible above the Spirit that guides us? Why do many put such an emphasis on memorizing Bible verses over trusting the Spirit to guide us? I know there are passages in the Bible that promote this, but this was before the time of “The Comforter.”
And why do we place such emphasis on human “leaders”? Jesus himself was explicit on this:
Matthew 23:8-10 – “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.”
1 John 2:27 – “But the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”
There is also a famous passage in the scriptures that says, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) This implies that there is NOTHING one needs to do to commune with God other than to be quiet and listen!
Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (NKJV). So God saves us. We do not save ourselves, and there is NOTHING we can do of ourselves. God is “speaking” to us through his Spirit, and all that is required is that we TRUST–do not doubt it!
This Spirit of God is available to ANYONE who is open to it, no matter what your current circumstance, sin, or religion may be!
THAT is a Gift!
Jesus also said that “in this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have OVERCOME the world!” Knowing that in itself is comforting, and knowing that we have “The Comforter” to protect and guide us allows us to overcome the world too!

Nicely said, John. This has been going on in one form or another since the beginning. Jesus, and the Holy Spirit gave us a way out, which some, thankfully, have taken. Others have carried on as if nothing has changed.
All the way back to the proverbial Garden of Eden, it’s human nature to be-LIE-ve the lie and doubt the truth…
To follow the laws written on stone tablets, and not on our heart…
To worship the golden calf that is seen, and not the Spirit of God within 🙏
To follow the teachings of corrupted religions, and not the teacher within….
To entertain the ego support of people, places and things, instead of being still to face the prideful ego that stands unholy in the place of the holy…
Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it cannot become a mighty tree…
Be Still and Know…
Walk in Knowing….
