My content typically focuses on “natural health,” “success,” and “freedom.” Natural disasters / occurrences aren’t something I normally “do.” I’m making an exception here, as I live in Southern Oregon, and Sunday I was out and got some footage of some serious flooding in Grants Pass at Taprock Northwest Grill and near there with my friend Dave of Dave’s TV–a mainstay in Grants Pass.
The Rogue River flooded due to a long period of rainfall–which is set to continue for at least the rest of this week.
I have been told that as severe as the flooding is, it doesn’t come close to some past flooding in the area.
The Rogue River has a history marked by significant floods, with the most notable being the Christmas Flood of 1964. This flood was one of the most severe rainstorms ever to occur in Oregon, causing extensive damage and near destruction of properties along the river. The Christmas Flood of 1964 was rated by the National Weather Service as one of Oregon’s top 10 weather events of the 20th century.
A local lady named Joyce said this to me on Facebook regarding historic flooding in the area: “This current flooding can’t compare to the December Rogue River floods of 1955 & 1964. Both years the floods occurred just a few days before Christmas. My childhood home on the Rogue River Hwy. had 18 inches of water flowing through it at the peak of the river crest in 1955. During the 1964 flood my parents home had 5 ft. 3 in. of flood waters inside their home. High water marks very visible with mud and debris in the first floor living room. In 1955 my father insisted moving all of our furnishings to the upstairs level of our home. In 1964 all contents of their home were moved across the highway to Pat’s TV for protection. A catastrophic event that took many months to recover from.”
Wow! Now THAT’S some serious flooding!
BTW, if you live in or are travelling through the Grants Pass, Oregon area, even though the area below Taprock Northwest Grill has been flooding, to my knowledge the restaurant is still open. It’s a really nice restaurant, and I’m sure they could use your business.
Also, if you need someone to install / program your TV (and doing that can be a real pain these days!), or you need a small electronics repair, then Dave of Dave’s (Grants Pass) TV Repair is your man for that. He’s made a lot of folks happy over the twenty-eight years he’s been in business! Dave has a cool YouTube channel too. Check it out!
Okay, now (maybe) “back to our regularly-scheduled programming”!
