Josephine County, Oregon Commissioner Ron Smith formally announced his Recusal from selecting a Commissioner to replace the Recalled Andreas Blech at a county administrative meeting on December 16th, reading from a prepared statement he’d previously released on social media.
Smith said he had been “bullied, belittled, threatened, and pushed to participate in backroom deals” and said no matter who he voted to appoint, “some will claim it was a backroom deal.” Instead, Smith wants another group of elected county officials to appoint Blech’s successor.
A sharp argument ensued with Board Chairman, Chris Barnett, who has also been Recalled. The county has until January 4 to appoint a new commissioner to replace Andreas Blech. On January 6, a Recall election is scheduled to be held to potentially remove Commissioners Blech and Barnett.
