Being “Right” Is Not Good Enough

I don’t spend too much time these days posting about the latest outrage coming from the Biden administration, other totalitarian leaders, or unhinged Leftists.

The reason is simple:

#1: It’s a waste of time to try to change those who are locked into their destructive ideology.

#2: Many other conservative voices cover what the tyrants and the Left are doing to us, and some cover it well. It’s hugely important and I salute them.

But I also know that the conservative movement has largely become an “outrage” movement, partly because outrage sells. But a large part of this is because human beings generally like to externalize evil, endlessly blaming somebody else for their woes.

To be clear, our movement is right–at least technically–the vast majority of the time. But being “right” is not good enough.

Those who fail to “walk the walk”–even though they can “talk the talk”–are rightly called hypocrites. We’ve all known them, and many of us, including me, have hated them.

Simply put, to be “right” on the issues, and to know the Bible and our founding documents DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE YOU A “RIGHT” OR RIGHTEOUS HUMAN BEING!

We all know this deep down, yet we tend to forget it in the heat of political/cultural battles.

Because we have not mastered ourselves, we tend to lash out in judgment at those who are more wrong on the issues than we are. This is not the way to win over those who can be won over.

Hypocrisy in “right” families

Far too often, I’ve seen conservative parents who raise children who become liberals. Now you can make whatever excuse you like as to why this happens, but let’s think about this for a moment: Realistically, does it make sense that a child raised for nearly two decades in a home by parents who espouse conservative beliefs would turn into a liberal or Leftist?

No–there’s no good reason for this to happen, providing that the parents were good examples who actually lived the values they constantly spoke about.

And this is the problem.

How much energy are we putting into being the embodiment of the values we espouse?

Through our hypocrisy, we have helped CREATE the Left–this is the cold reality so many do not want to face.

Many of those on the left side of the spectrum are quite intelligent. They’re no dummies. But they’ve often been “programmed” by their parents’ hypocrisy to REJECT the good counsel they’ve been given. It feels like the only way they can defend themselves against the injustice they experienced in the home.

“Just DEFEAT them!”

You may be reading this and still stubbornly clinging to the idea that these young Leftists created their own problems, they’re not amenable to reason, and that–as the late Rush Limbaugh used to say–we just need to “defeat” them.

I’ve heard the same sentiment from people like Dan Bongino–who I really admire, but who is partly animated by this same idea.

Yes, it’s possible to “win” a war with a “might makes right” philosophy, but you will end up with the kind of “victory” that leaves a nation in ruins, not unlike the way the North treated the South at the end of and after the Civil War, leaving a wake of resentment that never really went away.

Or, we can take the right approach, and aim to inspire through being right–those with the humility to see the error of their ways, and fight those who have no intention to change.

Now we’re talking about a real Movement, that has the power to transform our nation and the world.

This is the kind of movement that is NOT being encouraged and built through most conservative media, culture, or politics. But it needs to be.

This is the kind of movement that God wants. He wants us to be right within ourselves, within our families, and within our communities. To walk the walk. I hesitate to print this promise again (I do it a lot!), but I need to here:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

Notice that the verse above does not mention anything about the tyrants or troublemakers having to change. It is only “my people, who are called by my name.”

So let’s stop the ranting, and concentrate on “being the change we want to see in the world.”

Hear me–I’m not saying we should ignore what the Left is doing, or not to do all we can to stop the insane dictates they push against us. We must fight! No battle or war is won without convicted and spirited fighting!

But we must fight like the men of old–like David and George Washington. These were men of character–not perfect, of course, but men who sought the will of God, and fought with passion, but who also loved the People.

At this late date, there is still time to win not just battles, but souls as well.

We were once a Christian nation. Let’s not forget it.

I’m sure God hasn’t.
